Introducing Ford Motorsport
One year ago
I've neglected this blog for 3 weeks now and I'd now like to explain why...
Myself and fellow car enthusiast Paul are starting a new venture to create an online community for Ford Motorsport enthusiasts. We are both very big Ford fans and noticed that there were a lot of specialist ford communities such as the Zetec-S Owners Club and lots of general ford communities such as PassionFord. But there was nothing which was specifically catered for those who loved Fords and are highly interested in motorsport activities.
To address this opportunity, we are creating a dedicated Ford Motorsport Community which we are aiming to release to the masses in May 2009 and we don't want the site to be yet another car related forum so the site will have the following features:
- Free Full Membership
We don't want to charge our members so we will be using sponsors to help fund the site. You'll also benefit from special offers our sponsors have to offer. - Discussion Forum
Every community website needs one and so do we. - Motorsport Calendar
The calendar will have almost every single motorsport event around the world from Track Days to Formula One. - Digg-style News
We want to keep you up-to-date with all the latest motorsport news and you'll be able to do so with our news section. - Wiki
Want to know how gearboxes work or who won last years Formula Ford championship? The fountain of all motorsport knowledge will be available and editable in the Wiki. - Featured Project
Have a project car that you want the world to see? We'll have a place for your details, photographs and video of the project car on our dedicated Projects section. - Organised Events
We'll be organising events across the country from general meets to track days, and all of our members are welcome.
Of course, we won't be launching all these feature in one go. We're going to let the community grow and release new features when the time is right. So we'll be focusing on the forum and the calendar for our public launch.
We also want to stress again that Full Membership will be completely free. We love Fords and Motorsport and we want the community to be open to everyone. We only want to make enough money to cover the costs of running the site and any events we organise for our members. This will be paid for by our sponsors who will be able to sponsor a particular forum, eg Engine Tuning.
The site will be totally written by ourselves and will have a unique look and feel to it. We're currently working on how the site will look and the backend code too; so out with vBulletin or phpBB, and in with ASP.Net C# and MySql. We have chosen to write the site ourself because it will be a good opportunity to learn more about programming and web design, we have the time to do it and we'll have more control over the features of the software and it's performance.
We hope that you will help us build the community into something great! You can show your support by registering you name and email address which we'll use to notify you when the site goes into beta testing and live.
See you in 2009!
If your interested in advertising and sponsorship on our site when we go live, please contact us.
